About Amarantine Travels
The Moment Everything Changed
After many years working in the fast-paced world of freight forwarding, I reached a point in my life where I began asking deeper questions about purpose, fulfilment, and how I wanted to spend the next chapter of my life.
Travel had always been something that brought me joy, perspective, and renewal. Yet I kept noticing something many women quietly experienced but rarely spoke about — the desire to explore the world, but not always having someone to travel with.
Too often, women postpone their travel dreams while waiting for the “right time,” the “right partner,” or the “right opportunity.”
Creating a Space for Women to Travel with Confidence
That realisation sparked the idea that eventually became Amarantine Travels.
I wanted to create something more than just another travel company. I wanted to build a space where women could feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore the world — whether travelling solo, with friends, or simply seeking something meaningful for themselves.
The vision was simple: thoughtfully curated journeys where women could reconnect with themselves, discover new cultures, and experience travel in a way that felt empowering rather than intimidating.
From the beginning, the focus was always on connection, community, and creating a tribe of like-minded women who could travel together with confidence.
Investing in Professional Expertise
In September 2024, I made the decision to further invest in my knowledge and training by studying to become a qualified South African tourist guide.
This step was important to me because I believe that the women who travel with Amarantine deserve more than just beautiful destinations — they deserve well-planned journeys, knowledgeable guidance, and an experience that feels seamless from start to finish.
Today I am a qualified tourist guide accredited to guide in the Western Cape, Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape), and Namaqualand, and I am also a member of the Cape Tourist Guide Association and Women in Tourism Western Cape.
The Journey Continues
What began as a vision for women-only journeys has naturally grown and evolved over time.
While hosted women-only tours remain the heart of Amarantine Travels, many travellers have also asked for additional ways to explore the world.
Today Amarantine offers a carefully curated collection of travel experiences, including hosted women-only journeys, curated guided itineraries, and tropical holiday escapes.
My deep love for Bali continues to inspire our Bali Bliss journeys, while my connection to Cape Town, the Western Cape, and South Africa led to the creation of our Explore South Africa travel experiences.
As Amarantine Travels grows, the mission remains the same — helping travellers explore the world with confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.
What Amarantine Means
The name Amarantine holds a deeply personal meaning.
It was inspired by the song “Amarantine” by Enya, one of my favourite pieces of music. The song speaks about enduring beauty, timeless connection, and the idea that some things in life never truly fade — a sentiment that strongly reflects the spirit behind Amarantine Travels.
The word itself is derived from the Greek word “amarantos,” meaning everlasting or unfading.
Traditionally, the amaranth flower symbolises strength, resilience, and timeless beauty — qualities that reflect the spirit of the women who choose to explore the world with curiosity and courage.
The colour often associated with Amarantine is a rich crimson or deep purple. These tones represent passion, creativity, and confidence while also conveying elegance and depth.
At Amarantine Travels, this symbolism reflects our commitment to creating meaningful travel experiences that leave a lasting impact — journeys that stay with you long after you return home.
