Morocco Through Her Eyes: What Our Travellers Experienced on Tour

Chantelle Naude • June 18, 2025

When we first launched our ladies-only tours to Morocco, we knew it would be beautiful — but nothing prepared us for how deeply moving and transformative the journey would become for so many of our guests.

Each group that travels with us returns home changed in small and powerful ways. The stories shared around the dinner table, the hands held during market haggling, and the quiet moments of awe in the desert — these are what make our Morocco tours more than just travel experiences. They’re emotional pilgrimages, friendship-forging adventures, and unforgettable escapes.

Here’s a glimpse into what it feels like to join an Amarantine Travels tour through Morocco…

The Riads: A Warm Welcome into Moroccan Hospitality

From the moment we stepped inside our first riad in Fes — with its hand-carved wooden doors, tiled courtyards, and trickling fountains — it felt like a retreat from the outside world. These boutique guesthouses become our sanctuaries, where hosts greet us like family, and breakfast is a feast of freshly baked bread, olives, fruit, and honey.

Women often tell us how staying in these spaces makes them feel spoiled, seen, and safe — a world away from impersonal hotel chains.

The Desert: A Night Beneath the Stars

Ask any guest about her most unforgettable moment, and she’ll probably say the night in the Sahara Desert.

There’s something deeply moving about arriving on camelback to our luxury tented camp, just as the sun sinks behind the dunes. Later, we gather around a fire beneath the stars, sipping mint tea as the Berber guides play music, sharing laughter and silence in equal measure.

That night, wrapped in warm blankets, surrounded by soft candlelight and the murmur of the desert wind — many of us felt a sense of peace and presence we didn’t know we’d been craving.

 The Souks & Sisterhood

The medinas of Marrakech and Fes are alive with colour and chaos. And while navigating them solo can be overwhelming, doing it with a supportive group of women turns it into an adventure. We’ve laughed our way through bargaining for handwoven carpets and spices, tried on kaftans with the enthusiasm of teenagers, and clutched each other’s arms at the first taste of snail soup (verdict: not bad!).

But beyond the fun of shopping, these souks spark deep conversations — about how women live, work, and raise families across different cultures. It’s here that we learn from each other, across borders and backgrounds.

 Connection with Moroccan Women

One of the most heartwarming parts of the journey is meeting the local women of Morocco. We’ve spent time with women’s co-operatives who produce rose oil, argan oil, and traditional textiles. Their stories of resilience, creativity, and community have brought tears and inspiration in equal measure.

These moments often remind us of our shared strength as women — no matter where we come from.

The Journey Itself: Laughter, Lifelong Friends & Little Luxuries

Our guests often come solo, hoping to tick off a bucket-list destination. But they leave with something even more meaningful: friendships that last beyond borders, laughter that echoes long after the trip, and the joy of discovering the world — and themselves — in a new way.

Our Morocco tours are intentionally slow-paced, giving time to soak it all in. You’ll enjoy guided city walks, countryside stops, and a bit of down time to journal, nap, or get a henna tattoo if the mood strikes.

We’ve also carefully selected our hosts, guides, and drivers to ensure safety, comfort, and cultural insight — all wrapped in Moroccan warmth.

 What Our Travellers Said:

“I thought I was signing up for a sightseeing tour. What I got was healing, laughter, sisterhood and the desert magic I didn’t know I needed.” – Lerato, Johannesburg

“Morocco was every bit as colourful as the brochures promised, but what surprised me most was the friendships I made. I still chat weekly to two women I met on this trip!” – Vanessa, Durban
